On December 2nd I published these figures after I requested them from Ports of Auckland.
The Stranded cried that the figures are wrong and launched personal attacks behind their shield of anonymity on everyone who dared question their Union mates.
On January 11th I suggested a recount based on Peter Kiely and Mike Williams and Waitakere.
The Ports of Auckland have done better.

Today they published a press release stating that Ernst & Young have audited the figures as correct. Here is the summary.
Team VRWC of Farrar, Whaleoil and myself have been vindicated and The Stranded and their Union mates look like a wet pack of lying sooks spreading misinformation. And still they keep spinning in the face of a big four audit.
Thanks to our team of VRWC blogs doing the job of journalists while our little paid press petals put their feet up in the wet that was the New Zealand summer, Unions can no longer run public misinformation campaigns of propaganda and smear in order to bring the public on their side.
Parsloe is whining that our actions are political, well of course they are bloody political. He's created a political shit storm, tried to bring Labour into it. Funded the Labour Party with his mates, and what does he expect now MUNZ are plain dirty liars? Does he expect the pro-employer hard right (and David Farrar) to sit back and take his shit? The mainstream media have created a gap in the marketplace because they are all still on holiday and we've filled it with facts. Audited facts.
They can no longer paint themselves as the good guys while they hold consumers to ransom. The Union can no longer be trusted with anything they say. MUNZ's credibility is shot and it is clear that the Good Old Boys are trying for one last gasp at workplace power grabbing hold of any politician to the left they can find in a desperate hope one of them will back their cause.
They won't because David Shearer is too smart to back racist, sexist, bully boy liars who are stuck in the past.
The day of racist and sexist Union bully boys running workplaces is firmly over.

I thought it was only a review, not an Audit.
Would be interesting to see the actual report, especially the Representation and Audit report from E & Y themselves, as I would find it rather surprising they would be offering an opinion outside the scope of the Audit, if indeed it were an Audit, as you have described.
For a moment there I thought I was reading a speech by a politician... but well done CK.

Prickly One, please just get out the calculator. Use the rates published and do some sums on "part time". Multiply sums by less than 40 hours and you don't get anywhere near the $80K. Conversely get the numbers for the cost of management, divide by the number of managers and lets see who we pay most for (and probably get the least from).
As far as I am concerned the whole lot of them are costing me too much. The guys at the top bleating loudest have proven themselves incompetent negotiators with the likes of Maersk, and have proven that in dealing with the Union they never had good faith. I don't appreciate paying for them any more than I like paying stevedores.
And anon how would they have signed off without reviewing back to the actual source documents? Pretty simple I would have thought.
What the hell else can POAL do short of releasing publicly a copy of each stevedores pay slips and IRD employer forms? Which would break all manner of laws.
I refuse to provide you with a working example and go through this further because you can't read. I am bored with the debate and aren't being paid to do POALs job for them. EY were paid to do that and have already done the numbers. The average is 91k. Period.
Amazing how you believe one lot of numbers given and then apply them to another lot that you don't believe.

I would like to see the MEDIAN figures as well. Averages tell SFA without accomanying stsndard deviations: medians tell a bit more.

Why don't POAL publish the amount that it spent in wages for the last financial year? Then we can have a real debate.
This current discussion where it is possible that ACC, redundancy payments, medical benefits et al are added in to a calculation of how much wharfies earn is academic to say the least ...
Cribble - yawn - there's around 300 stevedores and 122 earn more than $80k. Do the maths, but then I guess you don't believe there are 122 earning more than 80k, sigh.
Mickysavage - who cares? The rest of the POAL employees aren't on strike are they? If they were it would be relevant. Surely detailed line by line accounts are obtainable through your mate Red Len as shareholder. Ask him. And while you are at it why don't we ask MUNZ for their accounts from the superfund.
"Superannuation contributions and medical insurance worth $2,055 annually are included in the remuneration figures. Ports of Auckland matches the superannuation contributions of employees covered by the collective agreement up to a maximum of7%". So only $2k annually.
Lets see what they return for tax as well then. The tax man picks up and includes almost everything as remuneration.
Bottom line is it is a waste of time having a debate with the left and the Unions until you accept that EY are correct. And you won't because you are spinning like a top in favour of your Union mates.
If you believe there is no issue Cactus, get POAL to publish the so called Audit Report, no-one is asking for publication of payslips, just the Report which you are fawning all over, as I doubt any Auditor would ever be that stupid to advise what POAL are publicising.
Publish the report so we can at least take you seriously
