NZX and Women - Quote of the Week
A whole load of backslapping and weasel words as Mark Weldon and NZX look to promote women on Boards.
"Four Million Dollar Man" Rod Drury and Mr "I Should Pay more Tax But Don't" Sam Morgan have chipped in famously.
And Sam does his usual subversive, "I'm rich but love me I'm a populist" trick
Thing is, if it is already such a good profitable idea to promote this apparent diversity, don't you think Boards would already have these women on them to magically increase profits? And other "minorities"? Businesswoman Sarah Trotman doesn't like it much.
I didn't think much of it either
And David Farrar has had a dollar each way.
But quote of the week is this one
That is right NZX's own Board doesn't practice what it wants to expose to others.
Drury and Weldon are on that Board.
There are a new breed of weasel word corporate welfared CEO's and Directors in NZ. They promote themselves as anti-Business Roundtable establishment, hip and new age.
They like to be liked by the public.
They are starting to look however just like self-promoting shallow tools.

Great Post. So why does Don or Rodney or Heather or Bosco or Hilary not say - why the fark is Xero receiving corporate welfare. They are no different than a solo mum with 100 kids/employees.
I would also contend that forcing women onto boards would only result in more directorships being held by a small number of women.
Why can't the NZX have a quota for directors who can actually run companies that make decent profits?
Hi CK, I'm sure you mean tool in a nice way.
Yes you're right. It is embarrassing being light on the femme's.
We're actively looking for someone with some marketing experience who could use Xero as their career development and first Board. They are tough to find.
I hope an outraged reader will flick me their CV.
Anon. Yip, we don't agree with Corporate Welfare either but if it's on offer we have to take it. We are creating a return on R&D by creating new jobs and exporting so we are providing value for money.

It is not embarrassing being light on them, the embarrassment should be saying you are taking the lead when you have none yourself.
Regarding corporate welfare, if you don't agree with it why are you taking it?
Have been waiting for you to do a blog post or interview stating why you applied and accepted it. Doesn't reconcile with the success thus far with Xero.
Rod - why should I invest my money in your company, when you've admitted that you're deliberately not hiring the best and the brightest?
If it's available it's our responsibility to take it.
One of our competitors BankLink got a big grant last year. That kick started it.
I think we'll be best in class in terms of ROI.
Not a perfect world I'll grant you.
Feels a bit stones and glass houses when you CK are pitching to become a beneficiary yourself :)
Still no CV's.
Rod
Weldone is happy for woman to be on his senior management team where he can bully and manipulate them but on a Board? Haha he and the other chaps on the NZX board who are used to their woman being in the kitchen or supervising their household staff would never cope with a female in the ranks. Load of bollocks really - I hazard a guess that Weldone needs something from a woman at the top of some organisation and is trying to curry favour.
Oh heck, "Uberfood Karin Grice" quoting "us young business girls" bloody hell Karin if you can't get basic grammar right why on earth do you think you should be appointed to any board? Am I pedantic? Yes probably but if you aspire to greater things get the bloody basics right to start with.
"Feels a bit stones and glass houses when you CK are pitching to become a beneficiary yourself :)"
WTF are you talking about? If you are referring to my attempt to become an MP, pay me what I am earning now and I may take the word "beneficiary" seriously.
You are taking corporate welfare yourselves because your competitors are taking it?
Jesus - when in a hole, stop digging.
I despise Mark and his silly little patronising attempt to get women on boards. The NZX is stagnant and that is the best he can do?

Bugger off mark.
