Hosking Is A Lucky Man
After attempting to star in an interview of someone else, Mike Hosking asked the question of Rodney Hide along the lines of:
"Could I go to my boss and argue I want to take my partner anywhere I wanted so I could give a better interview with you next time"
Rodney missed the killer blow, which would have been
"You don't need to travel overseas for tips on how to be a better interviewer, she's on the other side of your bed"
Lucky man Hosking.
As for the Royal "House"(sic) Guards Hotel in London that Hosking quotes as $NZ365. Hello? Has he been to London? That room rate is that of a budget hotel in Central London, despite a self-rating five star, it is not five star. "Oh my God it looks like a palace"...yeah to someone from a highly leveraged home in Auckland who has never seen European architecture.....
I doubt Kate would let Mike take her there and the rooms are far too small for the twins and others.
I still cannot see how this trip cost $50,000 if the average hotel per night was $300 x 10 nights = $3000. Someone at Parliamentary Services is utter crapola at getting efficiently priced airfares or on the take from the travel agencies/airlines they are using. Or the Herald are just exaggerating.
I will say it again, I travelled for 2 months around the world in business class and staying in hotels more expensive than this one and my bill was $29,000 with excessive champagne which neither Hide or Partner partake in.
And could I have done it if I didn't take my partner? Hell no, and completely why I am single and have the job in the first instance. No man could stay faithful if a woman left him for two months while she trotted off around the world, let alone the woman who met hundreds of men in that two months.

$NZ365 for a "palatial" hotel room in London? Get out of here. More like one of those nasty places you'd find in Bayswater. They all have names like "Royal" "Regal" "luxury" and yet remind you of the tiny rooms you find in Paris.
Cuurrently prices are from £90.30 a night at this hotel, at a 30% discount, ex VAT. Bargain. 5 star my ass though. You're right, Kiwis don't know what proper 5 star really is. Good reviews on Trip Advisor too, it looks like Rodney did his homework as it is a well priced place to crash.
Anybody care to guess Jonathan Hunts preference for sleeping quarters on the NZ taxpayer in London?
An actual 5 star hotel in HK - the Mandarin has a website rate of around $HK4,000 which is around $700 a night. And the rooms barely big enough for 2 without a seaview.
The 5 star rating is a self-rated one for that London hotel, as are most.
I've yet to stay in a London hotel that is worthy of its rating.
But then NZ still allows Sky City Grand to advertise as 5 star when it doesnt even have flat screen TV's and doors to showers that close properly.
So CK your travel allowance is more in 2 months than most New Zealanders earn in a year, definitely more than what most even earn in that 2 months?
How can you have any opinion about welfare living that sort of lifestyle?
You've clearly never worked before have you?
I have to account for every receipt of course within my own cabinet manual. Then take time labouriously to compile an expense report. Then this is compared to the value gained by the trip through extra revenue/advantage gained.
Given I've been doing this now for some 7 years, intensively for the past 4 years travelling, I imagine the accountants would have told me by now if the trips were not worth the cost on their cost-benefit analysis.
And that a New Zealander earns that a year or in 2 months is their problem living in a low wage economy, it is surely not mine.
We have to realise that New Zealand has much cheap accomodation.
London is expensive on all budgets.
I recently paid about £79 or so to stay in the Novotel in the London Docklands.
And I recently paid NZ$70 a night for a four night stay in the Novotel on Green Lane.
Hotels.com offered 40% off for a four night stay and I had been given a 10% off promotional code to use as well.
The worst part of Closeup was not the interview itself, but when Hosking provided viewer feedback on the Hide interview. Some crazy woman had supposedly emailed and suggested Rodney was thinking with his "little brain, and not his "big brain". How crass, how lowbrow.
Rodney's public personna is of a hard-nosed politician. What most people don't realise is that he is actually a very gentle, sensitive person. And he is very sincere in maintaing his relationship with his partner. She is a great person, not only beautiful, but very smart, funny and talented. They make a great couple.
So what's wrong with doing your utmost to maintain a very happy relationship? When did becoming a Minister mean you need to live like the Pope?
Hosking thought Rodney was "busted". But Rodney tackled his questions with reason and sicerity and came out the winner.
No man could stay faithful?
Bullshit generalization. Depends entirely upon the couple's commitment. Something you seem to know little of. Stick to law.
oh dear, how would you confess t being Louise's mother!!
"Well said Cactus. The figures don't add up. GET THE FUCKING APOSTROPHE IN THE RIGHT PLACE. I know you only went to XXXXXXX but even that mediocre establishment should have taught you the basics".
Yeah cunt....when you can write a blog of 000's of posts a year with hundreds of thousands of words and not make one single typo then you can come and criticise me. Until then shut the fuck up and be an observer.
