Tax Cuts
Well you don't get any, but here in Hong Kong this week we have just been told that our $HK6,000 tax cut announced earlier this year has stimulused into $HK8,000.
That makes it four years running now that I have received tax cuts.
So what's happened with Bill English's budget then??
You could get a similar amount - only if you want to insulate your stupidly large New Zealand homes as Nanny State deems you all too useless to organise and pay for this yourselves. I can just see a run on insulation installers which will push the price up and make the grant a waste of everyone's time.
If you are cold do what we do in Hong Kong at winter. Go take some of your HK8,000 and buy a very large oil column or gas heater.

Boy oh boy is Mark Hubbard furious with National.
http://www.interest.co.nz/ratesblog/index.php/2009/05/28/budget-forecast-to-be-in-deficit-for-another-decade/
He reminds readers what 'National says it stands for."
and finishes up with
"Lying, hypocritical, rotten, two faced sods."
"I demand the resignation of English forthwith."
"No more posts from me today. I too furious, and will just get myself booted."
I totally agree with him.
Just what I needed, some salt to rub in. Thanks very much.
Sally, Libertarians are always angry, it's their default.
It gets worse Kate, the stupid national party cheer leaders refuse to acknowledge that English and Key have truly missed a golden opportunity to do what is right.
It seems that they (English and Key) are more concerned about securing their second term than they are about rewarding personal responsibility and hard work (you know what I mean, all those "silly" old fashioned National party traditions)
So we now have to pay to insulate the homes of bludgers along with paying them to live or paying for the kids they have that they cannot afford.
Meanwhile the mindless cheerleaders continue to tell us what a "great" budget it is.
Bruv
We (Libz) have been saying this for a long time: National is Labour in disguise.
With this budget they have failed to provide their election promise (tax cuts) but managed to pull off most of Labour's promises.
Labour-Lite, anyone?
WEll, I think I'd rather pay out one-time capital to insulate than on-going welfare increases to off-set the effect of Global Cooling (I swear sir, I AM feeling colder this year than last!).
As for "they are more concerned about securing their second term than they are about rewarding personal responsibility and hard work", perhaps a little 'stop-and-think' is called for!
Drop taxes, run up a bigger deficit , get down-rated by the people idiots listen to when deciding how much interest to charge putting up the cost of government (needs more tax revenue) as well as the cost of mortgages (doesn't matter what the OCR is if no one will lend money at less than 7%). YEAH! Socialist heaven, plenty of ammunition for the next election, after which they can put the top rate of tax up to 50% (got to pay off the government's debt to get a better credit rating).
Those of us who have a horizon beyond the next beer (or Crystal,) can see the wisdom in what has been done, even if a 20th century politics myopic anonimitie can't!
I have spent thousands on extra insulation in the last three houses I have renovated. Silly me. I should have just relied on the taxpayers to do it for me. I guess I learned something there. Next time I will spend the money on a TV instead.
Always pleased to hear that HKG is cutting taxes because then I know Singapore will have to do the same to keep up. Isn't competition for foreign talent great?
