Culture Clash For Cash

At lunchtime today I was witness to a car accident where a taxi was clearly at fault.

Within seconds the driver was running at me offering me in reasonably clear English $HK1,000 ($NZ180) to be a witness. In other words - give his account.

Unexcited by the prospect of lying for $NZ180 not to mention the time taken out of my life to complete forms, sign statements, bother with the Police etc... I declined.

Within a milli-second an elderly Chinese man had jumped in and offered himself at $HK500. Eventually they settled on $HK250.

Would you have agreed had you been offered, say, $NZ1000?

So a lie from a youngish white chick is worth $180, but one from an elderly Chinese man is only worth $45 ? Brilliant.
