Check In Rip Offs

Obviously I book plenty of hotels. One I want to stay at when I read the fine fine fine fine print comes up with just as you are about to hit "confirm":

Check in - 3pm
Check out - 10am

What the fuck is my reaction?

While most hotels will give you a room when you show up if it is available, plenty are right pricks about it and offer to store your luggage while you end up in a shitty town unable to sleep if you have just had a terrible flight, or go anywhere as you want to shower first. Or worse, having to wait to have your first bonk. The whole situation is tourism untenable.

So I can't check in until 3pm and have to be out by 10am next morning? Can someone explain how a room rate per night can be quoted with a 5 hour hand over? 5 hours out of 24 is 21% of the day.

The usual is a 2pm check in and 11am check out giving you 2 more hours in the room. And what's with such a late check-in? Ridiculous.

Fortunately I continued to the fine fine fine fine fine print and read that the booking is refundable at 5pm that day. I will simply turn up when I want before lunch, demand a room if they don't have one available and if they still wont help, I will cancel my booking by the required 5pm and they will get no money at all. Hotel B will be booked in similar fashion. Pricks.

Good point. Check in time are a nonsense, particularly if you are travelling.

I always buy the night before if I am getting in early morning local time. But it is a rip off.

As an honorary travel agent. Used to own one.

You can normally negotiate a late departure, especially if you bought the extra night.

More important to me is a room that is quiet, especially during the day.
