Say No To Liquor Outlets

Mr Key said that liquor outlets - which Helen Clark on Monday fingered as part of the cause of violence in South Auckland - had been identified by government ministers as an issue in 2006 but no action had been taken since.

I can't remember the last time I went to a liquor outlet.

Frankly it's common behaviour. Why would anyone wish to purchase alcohol from a huge cold warehouse, deal with some minimum wage peasant at the counter and have to wade through fat white trash and teenage darkies high on "P" and "D(ope)" to have to carry it back to a motor vehicle in the meantime risk being part of a robbery?

The mere thought of it sends a shiver up my spine.

Alcohol should only be sold in restaurants and bars. With their ridiculous mark-up, bouncers and a dress code. Champagne and wine & spirits over $70 a bottle could be sold in supermarkets, but only in supermarkets located in upper-income suburbs.

If people are going to be drinking then least they do it well-dressed and without smelling like they've just wrapped themselves in Blanket Man.

All the trouble starts with cheap alcohol. By this I mean all beer, pre-mixers, cheap spirits and cheaper wine.

If you can't afford champagne or fine wine then I am sorry but you can't afford these days to be drinking.

While I admit these changes won't solve New Zealand's increasing crime rate, it sure as hell would make the country look more cultured and sophisticated to the rest of the world.

Yes I do remember some coverage a few years ago, so it was 2006.

Wasn't it to do with rampaging Sth Auckland gang violence - yes it was if I recall correctly. About the time that lad got baseball batted to death outside a dairy or bakery while he was waiting to start work or something.

There was wittering by someone like Hawkins? and the local (labour) MP at the time about the explosion of licka outlets that were serving up such classics as generic JD and Coke and bacardi breezers etc at cut price rates to the local yoofs.

What a brilliant idea. I think NZ should implement it the minute I finish my university experience.

Good post Cactus.

But you ought to know you are inviting Faye Frankfurter, Big Girls Blouse, Helengrad, Hairy Armpit (and any other alter egos of this latest sensation in the blogosphere) to become your resident troll by posting in the "price alcohol so only the rick pricks can afford it" vein.
