Ms A clearly wasn't paying attention during Evolutionary Biology 206.
Wow! There's a decade of Coro St scripts there (or 1 episode of Shorty St).
I love how the Judge blandly states that poor, wee Ms A suffered "emotional atrocities" at the hands of Mr B. Wasn't she the one committing adultery on Mrs B???
Even more stunning was the Otago law prof claiming:
"If there was a child as a result of the affair, that would strengthen the chances of the relationship being seen by the courts as a de facto relationship."
Now Ms A and Mr B shagged for 20 years (and assuming neither was shooting blanks) they had to be using contraception to not have had a child. Given the significant failure rates of contraception, the fact that they had no child is simply random variation (ie dumb luck), not some conscious choice...
(unless they aborted the poor A-B creature)
So how can that possibly be a factor in deciding payout? Bad law. Bad, bad law.
This law is an ass! Why should any person be able to lay claim to the assets of someone they were in a 'de facto relationship' with? If they were too lazy and/or cheap to spend 30 minutes and $100 on a state marriage or civil union, then they clearly did not consider there to be a relationship worth mentioning. Hence, no claim on assets.
Would be interesting to see whether Ms A and Mrs B would have actually gotten half each, leaving Mr B with a big fat donut... Pity the fool who decides to take two mistresses alongside his wife!

Good lord, what are they teaching children in schools these days?
There's a magic word that I so love hearing "vasectomy". They are wildly popular with men of age.
Combined with the pill and condoms there's no fucking excuse (pardon puns).....
