Beckham Moves To US

News has just come through that David Beckham has signed for Major League Soccer's LA Galaxy. I won't even link it as it will be all over the news in the next few days.

Yes, that's right. David Beckham: England Captain, Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy.

In football (soccer) terms it is a bloody big joke. Beckham won't be remembered as the best player in his position at any of the clubs he has played for, or even England. He won't be remembered as a brilliant player despite being one of the best strikers of the penalty outside the box. He will be remembered for stupid send offs that cost games, Argentina in the World Cup being the worst. He will be remembered for injuries at the worst possible times and a fiery bust up with Sir Alex Fergusson. He struggled to even get a game in the past year at Real Madrid and this led ultimately to his downfall with England, you can't pick a guy who does not get regular football. Effectively this is the equivalent of an All Black reject being paid what the entire All Black squad do to go play for a company rugby team in Taiwan (not even Japan). At least I guess Beckham will get a game.

But in business terms it is a staggering deal for Beckham and could not have been brokered better by his professional advisors. First estimates have it as a five year deal worth around $USD250m. Galaxy will make most of this money back in shirt sales and image deals. MLS itself will get a huge boost out of this even though watching one of their matches is like the equivalent of Waitakere Rangers vs Melville F.C. Believe it or not Real Madrid actually made a considerable net gain on having Beckham sit on the bench getting splinters in his arse. Add to that the money that Posh wife Victoria can make in LA where talentless hacks like herself can sell anything from their bodies through to jeans, deodorant and hair products, and Beckham Inc will be rolling in it. The positivity that snarly old Posh will now be able to hob knob with all her friends and get paid for it again.

The UK tabloids will be seething that the Beckham's have moved out of their grasp to the US, but look for The Sun, The Mirror and News of The World to have special LA correspondents following their every move. This remember, is a huge business and Beckham Inc is one of the most hideous yet desired brands in the UK.

Look in the next few days as football greats deride the move in terms of football and cheapening the game and ruining Beckham's credibility. But with a quarter of a billion USD coming in 5 years, would you really give a fuck? Nope.

In theory the move to LA is a brilliant one for the Beckham's. The problem though is not David's aging legs, but what is between them. He just can't keep his pants up and if he dropped them for Rebecca Loos, think of how much trouble he is going to get into in California with all those hot women to choose from.

Gracious. For sure Posh isn't classy and Becks isn't the geatest player (soccer that is) but you still sound jealous. I'm shocked. What gives Kate? Over 30 and still single or something?

Ummm, the only thing possible to be jealous of with the Beckham's is the squillions of dollars in cash they have.

And even that does not make them happy.

I don't think anyone in the world could be jealous of their happy loving marriage!

He will get £492,000 a week, that's even more than CSKA Chelski loser Shevchenko whos on a paltry £130,000 p/w.

It's an amazing amount of money any way you look at it. I saw an interview with his LA Galaxy Capt on TV last night when they told him he was getting one million US per week/game and he was laughing in disbelief. But his face showed true shock, priceless!

I agree though, I am not jealous of their "loving" marriage either!

The Beckham's are practically a cult IMO - and that says something about people.

I expect their next move will be to Monaco to live out the rest of their lives with other aging socialites. More proof that money can't buy class.
